Our day began on a positive note with Aiden continuing to eat at breakfast. Today he had strawberry yogurt and some scrambled eggs. The spoons here are huge, and he didn't really know what to do when I put the spoon with the yogurt in his mouth. He would bite down on the spoon. The yogurt is so liquidy (is that a word?) that I could just pour it in his mouth. I later found out from a friend that they have straws by the yogurt for a reason. Just poke the straw in the top and drink.
We met our group at 9:00 and headed for our children's medical exams. There were 4 stations that we had to take Aiden to. We started at the temperature check station. They took his temp and told us he had a fever. I felt horrible for not realizing it. It is so hot and humid here that we sweat all the time, and we just thought he was warm from the bus ride. They told me to wait and come back for a second check. We gave him Tylenol then. He still had a low grade fever the second time, but they sent us on to the next station.
The next station was ENT. Aiden passed this station so a visit with the Dr. was next. This is where things got stressful. He began reading through the stacks of medical charts we have on Aiden. He asked me what was wrong with his heart. I said I haven't heard that there was anything wrong with his heart. He kept reading. I asked if it could have been referring to a heart murmur. Yes, that was it. Oh the relief.
We waited longer and talked to him some about Aiden's needs. He listened to his heart and lungs but couldn't figure out why Aiden was running a temp. I told him we were treating an infection on his bottom, so he wanted to take a look. When he pulled back Aiden's diaper he said, OMG!" and then quickly closed his diaper. That's exactly how you want your physician to act, right? He told our guide he wanted us to go straight to a dermatologist. I don't have much faith in the doctors here. I told our guide I want the doctor in our group to check him out instead. She said that was fine. She also told me that Aiden speaks very well for his age and uses complete sentences. She said he told the doctor that he was in pain. That is heartbreaking. I just want to fix it for him!
Aiden's last stop was to have his blood drawn. Two nurses took him from me and went in a room and closed the door. This was so painful. Our guide said he was screaming, "I don't want those shots!" He kept crying for Mama! Our guide, Shiyan, didn't know why it was taking so long. Then she heard through the door that he was a hard stick. Can my child please catch a break?! I had his favorite blue sucker waiting for him as soon as he was finished. Our BinBin is such a brave boy!
David and Alana picked up lunch for us while I tried to get Aiden down for a nap. He had a cat nap on the bus so the nap never happened. Lunch was good and Aiden even ate some of my grilled chicken and loved it.
Today we made the best decision yet. We borrowed a stroller from the hotel. Aiden LOVES to ride in the stroller. We became his chauffeurs today and walked a lot. We would get back to the room and within 10 minutes, he would be pointing to the stroller again and off we would go. His second English word he has said is now "stroller". The first was "chip". Actually Mama was his first😉
Alana met her friend Karis at the pool this afternoon and they swam and then went to the jacuzzi. She is having a great time and keeps us laughing all the time! She has also been a huge help to me when BinBin won't go to Baba. He will always go to "JieJie". When she isn't in the room, he points to her bed and says "JieJie". (Older sister) She calls him her Beanie Baby. We are definitely a family that loves nicknames.
At 5:00, we met our guide and some others from our group and walked to a Japanese restaurant. Shiyan ordered for us, and the food just kept coming out. It was family style with the table that turns in the middle. Aiden ate a small bowl of rice and then decided it would be fun to make Mama stand the entire meal. He wanted me to "hug him standing". That's what others tell me he is saying when he wants me to stand up and hold him. There were tanks with fish crammed into them in the back of the restaurant so we made a few trips there. He loved looking at the fish. This is one of the nights he would have nothing to do with Baba. Alana was able to take him a few times for me. The food I did get to eat was delicious and cheap! We paid $20 for the 4 of us.
After dinner we stopped at a 7/11 to get soy milk for Aiden. He drinks no milk, and I am trying to find a way to get some vitamins in him. His legs need some strengthening. We are trying to make him walk some every day, and it is a struggle for him.
David took Aiden to the indoor play area at our hotel while I took Alana and Karis back to the jacuzzi. Aiden wouldn't really play so they just rode around in the stroller.
We finished the night with Aiden's bath. He is starting to relax more in the tub. He had his Pj's on and had his bottle. I was getting ready to put him in bed when he started grunting and pointing. I told him to show me what he wanted and guess where he went...the stroller. What BinBin wants, BinBin gets. We took one last stroller ride before bed.
